Natural England creates (or derives) and then publishes a range of information and data. We encourage Natural England’s customers, partners and suppliers to use this information and data and we aim to make as much information and data as possible available under the Open Government Licence, which allows free commercial and non-commercial reuse.

All our publically available GIS Datasets other than Local Nature Reserves are made available under a Natural England and Ordnance Survey Open Government Licence: (152kb). Local Nature Reserves are currently available under this version of the Open Government Licence: (154kb). You can download the datasets from our Download page.

Non-GIS datasets that we can provide under the Open Government Licence is made available under a Natural England Open Government Licence: (157kb).

Natural England publications are available for commercial and non-commercial purposes as long as the information described above is followed and in accordance with any publication's individual copyright statement.

Please note: Natural England photographs are only available for non-commercial purposes.

If constraints, such as third party intellectual property rights, do not allow us to use the Open Government Licence then we make data available in accordance with our own Terms of Use for Information and Data: (1.17mb). Natural England will undertake to inform you when the Terms of Use for Information and Data apply and when you can use information under the Open Government Licence.

Please note that the Open Government Licence can only be used to license datasets that we fully own or with the agreement of any third parties with Intellectual Property Rights in the data. Personal or restricted data will also not be provided under the Open Government Licence. We no longer make an administrative charge for commercial reuse of our information and data.
