The Muckin4Life campaign aims to increase the number and diversity of citizens involved in conservation volunteering, while also increasing awareness and understanding that being active outdoors, whether in urban green spaces or the natural environment, has physical and mental health benefits.
The campaign is designed to support and add value to selected organisations, in the Defra network and third sector, who are already engaged in harnessing volunteers. This campaign also contributes towards the cross-government PSA target 28 and also compliments current work on securing access to green spaces being conducted by the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit.
The campaign aims to additionally inspire attitude and behaviour change to increase conservation volunteering numbers as well as support behaviour change on the ground by providing support and advice for local groups.
We are looking to engage families, including grandparents and children age 6-11, in new volunteering opportunities through our stakeholders and also community groups i.e. those who have some environmental concern and are interested in activity driven by family participation. This will be further supported by encouraging existing environmental volunteers to get their families and peers involved in conservation volunteering by promoting the benefits of being part of such a cause.
The overall objective being to contribute to increasing the proportion of volunteers in environmental volunteering by 10% by 2011
