The general public is invited to comment on restrictions on access land.
Open access land can be restricted for land management, safety or fire prevention reasons.
Land managers apply to the relevant authorities, which are Natural England, the National Parks or the Forestry Commission, for a direction to restrict or exclude access.
When giving a new direction to restrict access, reassessing an existing direction, or proposing to vary or revoke an existing direction, relevant authorities are required to consult where access will be restricted
for over 6 months or indefinitely.
The relevant authority must publish here a notice giving details of these consultations, and provide the public with an opportunity to comment. For more information on the reassessment and review process, refer to Annex M: (706kb)
of the Statutory guidance to Relevant Authorities on their functions in relation to local access restrictions (Relevant Authority Guidance).
The following cases are currently out for public consultation. If you wish to submit any comments, please send them direct to the case officer responsible whose contact details can be found in the consultation notices below.
