The NNR is a small area of reedbed situated on the inner fringe of Poole Harbour near to the mouth of the river Frome.

Although most NNRs are managed by Natural England, 88 are wholly or partly managed by other bodies approved by Council, under Section 35 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Arne Reedbeds NNR is owned by Natural England but leased to and managed by the RSPBexternal link.

Breeding birds such as reed warbler, reed bunting and bearded tit add interest to this site.

Location and access

Arne Reedbeds are 5 km west of Wareham, on the edge of Poole Harbour. There is an RSPB carpark.

The site can be visited at any time of year.

Facilities

The nearest toilets and refreshment facilities can be found in the village of Ridge or at Wareham.

The reserve has two nature trails, one 4.5 km and the other 2 km. Each trail has a bird hide.
