The moor is notable for the fact that it has never been cut for peat and supports a diverse collection of plant communities including those typical of woodlands, valley mires and swamps.
The site supports a number of bird species including barn owl, curlew, snipe, buzzard and whitethroat. It is also home to a diverse beetle community.
Please note that boggy ground conditions make this site difficult to cross. The site is also fragile, and to avoid disturbing it visitors should confine themselves to public rights of way.
