Drumburgh Moss NNR

The NNR covers the major part of a raised mire system. The peat dome is still intact and has suffered only slight drainage.

Although most NNRs are managed by Natural England, 88 are wholly or partly managed by other bodies approved by Council, under Section 35 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. 

Drumburgh Moss NNR is owned and managed by the Cumbria Wildlife Trustexternal link.

The reserve is 1 km to the south east of another NNR, South Solway Mosses.

Please note that this site can be difficult to cross in wet weather.

Location and access

Drumburgh Moss is 29 km west of Carlisle on the Solway coast.

The reserve is 1 km south of Drumburgh village and 1 km north of Fingland village on the B5307. Drumburgh is on the course of Hadrian’s Wall.

The nearest train station is in Wigton (6 km to the south).

Two major trails, the Cumbria Coastal Wayexternal link and the Hadrian's Wall Pathexternal link, go through Drumburgh village, the Coastal Way also skirting the western boundary of the reserve.

Drumburgh is also on Route 72 of the Sustransexternal link National Cycle Network.
