London NNRs

Our London region has two National Nature Reserves.

Click on the links below to find out more about the NNRs in this region.

  • Richmond Park NNR

Richmond Park is London's largest NNR. It is notable for its rare beetles which feed on dead and decaying wood. In many ways the deer park has remained unchanged since the 17th century and is a habitat which supports many of the plants and animals which were found there then.

  • Ruislip Woods NNR

Although most NNRs are managed by Natural England, 88 are wholly or partly managed by other bodies approved by Council, under Section 35 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Our Capital Grants Scheme helps with the management and upkeep of these reserves.
