Natural England is studying the impacts of Climate Change on our natural environment. As part of a national project Natural England has already run a series of pilot studies, covering four landscapes (in Cumbria, Norfolk, Shropshire and Dorset) across four other English regions. The East Midlands region is continuing this project in the Sherwood National Character Area (NCA).

Natural England is working to deliver a natural environment that is healthy now and in the future, enjoyed by people and used sustainably. However, the natural environment is changing, particularly as a consequence of land use change and climate change.
A set of valued assets have been identified by the regional specialists for each of the themes of the project (Access and Recreation, Biodiversity, Ecosystem services, Geodiversity, Historic Environment and Landscape).
