Moors for the Future in National Lottery Award final
Moors for the Future - a project to restore one of the UK's most important natural defences against climate change - has reached the finals of the National Lottery Awards 2008. Peak District based Moors for the Future is battling two other Lottery funded schemes for top spot in the category 'Best Environment Project.' The victors will win £2000 for their project and the opportunity to take part in a special prime-time BBC1 television show on Saturday 30th August.
The Moors for the Future Partnership, based at Edale in the Peak District National Park, used its National Lottery funding to start restoring peatlands, potentially one of the UK's most important weapons against global warming. Launched in 2002 it is a partnership project funded by the Peak District National Park Authority, National Trust, Natural England, United Utilities, Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water, Environment Agency, Derbyshire County Council and moorland owners.
