Have a wild time at Ribblehead Quarry this summer

9 August 2010

Our team at Ingleborough National Nature Reserve are putting on a fun packed day for all the family on Friday 27th August

If you live within travelling distance of the Yorkshire Dales and are looking for something different to keep the kids entertained this summer, then Natural England may have the perfect answer for you.

We are inviting families to join us at the ‘Ribblehead Quarry Family Day’ on Friday 27th August, from 10.30am until 2.30pm.

Ribblehead Quarry is set amongst the glorious countryside of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and is part of Natural England’s Ingleborough National Nature Reserve. Activities include: searching out hidden geo-caches around the reserve and get crafty and make flowers and butterflies to take home as a reminder of the day. And if that isn’t enough, you can discover the wildlife and history of the quarry by joining a guided walk, starting at 10.30am and 1.30pm.

Tanya St Pierre, Natural England’s Community Outreach Officer said: ‘The Family Day gives kids a fantastic chance to learn more about the wonderful wildlife and geology that exists in the Yorkshire Dales. So if you are looking for something to keep your children entertained this summer holiday, come on down and be part of the fun. Why not bring a picnic and stay for the day.’

The Family Day is free of charge, but booking is required. All activities are suitable for children aged 6 and over, but they must be accompanied by an adult. You should bring strong walking boots or wellies and clothing suitable for inclement weather. Refreshments and basic services can be found in the nearby town on Ingleton. For more information or to book call 015242 42021.

How to find us

About National Nature Reserves

National Nature Reserves (NNRs) were initially established to protect sensitive features and to provide ‘outdoor laboratories’ for research. Their purpose has widened since those early days. As well as managing some of our most pristine habitats, our rarest species and our most significant geology, most NNRs now offer great opportunities to the public as well as schools and specialist audiences to experience England’s natural heritage.
